Bromley

April 29, 2019

The final show of this intensive Tour week is at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.

We have a few close friends in the audience. Jane Davies worked for me in Parliament for 17 years before retiring in 2015. She comes along with her friend Sue and joins an audience that also includes Eddie and Cindy, two children of my sister’s husband Charlie Edwards. They stayed here when their father and my sister, Linda, emigrated to Australia in 1983.

During the Q and A bit of the show somebody asks me how Linda is doing. This isn’t unusual. As Lynn Barber said when she reviewed ‘This Boy’ for the Sunday Times, if a ‘Johnson’ was ever destined to be Prime Minister it should be Linda rather than Alan! She is very much the hero of our childhood story. In my reply I tell the audience that she’s retired, living in Dawsville, Western Australia and that she’s just had a hip replaced. In actual fact it’s a knee that’s been replaced rather than a hip so I’m in big trouble if my inaccurate reply gets back to her. Cindy and Eddie promise not to grass me up!
