The Essex Book Festival is held at venues across the county. I’m in Chelmsford being interviewed by Dave Monk the Drive-Time host on BBC Radio Essex.Dave is a perceptive political interviewer and we decide to get Brexit out of the way early on so that we can move onto more pleasant territory as the interview progresses.I’m delighted to see an old friend in the audience. Eric Lovett was a Post Office clerk in East London who became a distinguished organising secretary for my Union and was a cool and steady comrade through some difficult times when I was General Secretary. I worry that I dedicate the four books he presents at the book signing afterwards too quickly without writing all that I wanted to say about such a great servant of the Union. But as always a queue had formed and whilst we Brits love to form a queue, we object to standing in it for too long.
