Why
After twenty years as an MP and eleven as a government minister ( serving as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Trade and Industry, Education, Health and Home Affairs) Alan Johnson left politics in 2017 to concentrate on writing.
His three books of memoirs have all won awards including the Orwell Prize and the Royal Society of Literature’s Ondaatje Prize.
In his new book “IN MY Life – A Music Memoir”, published on Sept 20th 2018 Alan looks back at his pursuit of rock stardom recalling with affection a vanished world of Dansettes, dancehalls and smoky pubs, Flower Power and platform shoes.
