Henley

April 29, 2019

Here I am outside the theatre that I’m most familiar with. This is my fourth appearance at the Kenton Theatre in Henley-upon-Thames. The other three were for the annual literary festival. Andrew Wilson and I appear before another full house on Saturday evening.

The Kenton has a very small foyer so books are sold on the stage with me staying put during the 15 minute interval to sign them. The Bell Bookshop in Maidenhead are providing the merchandise, as they did at their home town gig a few weeks back.

As usual, it’s a very professional backstage operation under the direction of Paula, the theatre manager.

We stay overnight at Danesfield House which is very swanky. I’m told that this is where George and Amal Clooney celebrated their betrothal and that the couple live nearby. I was once asked who I’d like to play me if ‘The Long and Winding Road’ was ever filmed. I plumped for George but added the rider that he’d have to smarten himself up a bit!

No sign of him in the bar when we get back but he could have been snuggled up with Amal in front of the telly watching Match of the Day.
