Lavenham Literary Festival

November 4, 2024

Back to one of our favourite festivals in the sumptuous surroundings of Lavenham. A surviving microcosm of Tudor Suffolk, it was once the richest wool town in England and has been remarkably well preserved.

It hosts a literary dinner every year. This year Carolyn and I had the pleasure of hearing Craig Brown talk about his new book – ‘A Voyage Around Our Queen’, a cornucopia of intriguing facts, comments and anecdotes on Queen Elizabeth’s long reign.

Every other year the dinner is followed by a two day literary festival which I had the honour of kick-starting on Saturday morning.

Although the photograph has me being interviewed (by the wonderful Lesley Dolphin) about Death on the Thames, the more observant will have noticed two books on the table in front of us. The second is my Harold Wilson biography which attracted most of the audience questions and sold out in the book signing afterwards.
