Spalding

October 7, 2019

These lovely women from Bookmark, the independent bookshop in Spalding helped to make my appearance at the South Holland Arts Centre a roaring success. The Centre is so popular that there are only two days a year when it’s not hosting an event.

Given that my latest book is a music memoir it was entirely appropriate to stay at the Red Lion close by. That is where Jimi Hendrix stayed for one night in the 60’s. I’m told that, rather disappointingly he failed to live up to the rock star tradition; no rooms were trashed and no televisions thrown into the street!

Spalding is a lovely town and could have once been accurately described as being in “South Holland” before the upheaval that separated England from the Netherlands in prehistoric times.
