Taunton

February 23, 2020

Here’s another strong recommendation for a place to stay. If you’re anywhere near Taunton book into the Greyhound at Staple Fitzpaine.

It’s a lovely location with excellent rooms and exceptional food. It’s run by a Dutch couple, who, like most of the world, are bemused by Britain’s exit from the EU. We loved the Greyhound and plan to return.

I was due to appear at the Taunton Literary Festival last November but had to cancel. My event was re-scheduled for last night at the Temple Wesleyan Chapel. My host was Lionel who runs Brendan Books in the town and who interviewed me the last time I was in Taunton three years ago.

The hour just flew by and whilst signing books afterwards, I met two people who’d lived in North Kensington and a woman who’d seen The Beatles when they came here in 1962. She only saw them – hearing them was impossible (she told me) because of the screaming!
