No, I’m not pointing to the iconic sleeve of ‘With the Beatles’, the Fab Four’s second LP (released on 22nd of November 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated ). The enormously clever people who work on this website took that album cover as the inspiration for this poster for my theatre show, ‘Harold Wilson, the Beatles and Me’
On Thursday, April 16th I appeared at the Kenton Theatre in Henley-on-Thames where this photo was taken, and next evening we moved to the Cider Mill Theatre in Chipping Camden.
The focus is on the 1960s, a decade that began in monochrome (like the album cover) and ended in technicolour; that began with the Cuban missile crisis and ended with the moon landing; a decade in which Harold Wilson dominated the British political scene in the same way that the Beatles were dominant musically.
I really enjoy these ‘Evening With..’ events and the next one is in North Kensington where I grew up. It’s on Friday, 29th May at the Playground Theatre, 8 Latimer Road, London W10 6RQ (phone 02089600110). Tickets are going fast!
