Wigtown

October 7, 2019

As I discovered on my previous visit two years ago, Wigtown hosts the premier book festival in Scotland. The town is also known as ‘Booktown’. Rather like Hay, it’s difficult to discern whether the festival spawned the book shops or vice-versa.

I’m here to do two events, a discussion on inequality with Lord Bird of Big Issue fame and novelist Kerry Hudson at 10.30 and my own book event at 18.30.
The equalities discussion is chaired by my old friend Ruth Wishart who keeps the verbose Lord Bird in order with characteristic wit and humour.

We three panellists bonded under Ruth’s skilful tutelage.

The photo is of Andy Cassell interviewing me at the evening session before Carolyn and I set out on the long trek to Bristol
